Mr Joseph McHugh TD, Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will this (Friday) afternoon launch the County Donegal National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) at Glenveagh Castle to celebrate the diverse and rich architectural heritage in the county.
The NIAH survey covers a wide range of structures from country houses, churches and public buildings to vernacular houses and farm buildings, bridges, mills and thatched houses.
The survey will protect and encourage interest in architectural heritage of the county as an important part of our culture and sense of identity and will also contribute to the protection and promotion of the important tourism resource.
The NIAH identifies and records more than 3000 individual structures across the county and highlights are shown in the publication by the Ministers Department of ‘An Introduction to the Architectural Heritage of County Donegal.’
